It was on a full moon saturday, May 29th 2021, when we had the pleasure and enthusiasm to share, with some of our closest friends, family and friends of friends, the opening of our first exhibition to take place since we started the project of the Azores Atlantic Surfers more than a year ago. Wine, incredible conversations and good vibes set the mood of the night. An improbable house, a suspicious art gallery, in an inappropriate, but perfect, place on the beautiful island of São Miguel, was pleased to present “It all started with a click”, an exhibition by Marco Costa / Azores Atlantic Surfers.

If, in theory, the world started with the Big Bang, in this case, it simply started with just a click.

As a teenager, Marco had an obsession, to get his hands on all the surf and bodyboard magazines he could find. Contemplating and collecting them, all those photographies of waves and surfers made him dream and, literally, travel around the world discovering waves. From his first camera to the collection he currently owns, it was a journey filled with unique moments captured with a click. The Azores Atlantic Surfers project also happened in one of those clicks. In a simple conversation with friends, taking Marco’s photos as a starting point, the project reflects life on the island and pays homage to the entire culture of the Azorean surf, joining photography, art, people and a good glass of wine.

Launched in 2020, during the quarantine and the COVID-19 pandemic, this project aims to work with artists, photographers, creators and surfers from all over the world, who share the same inspiration, love the Azores and life on the island.
With a different way of looking and being in the surf, the à represents living with the awareness of being surrounded by beautiful things and celebrating the small and simple moments of everyday life, such as catching a small wave or drinking a glass of wine with friends.

And like Alfredo said in the opening "After all, the photos themselves are not important, but where they can take you."

We hope that this can be just the beginning of a long ride, full of clicks, friends and special moments captured for eternity.

Welcome, join us and enjoy a different way of being in surfing
